DAY 7: Train to Adventure (Sept 26th)
Today you will board one the trains to head to the mountain town of Machu Picchu Pueblo, (aka Aguas Calientes,) which sits at 6,893 feet (2040 meters,) it is the starting point to go to the Lost City. The train you will be taking to Aquas Calientes, is a special train to enjoy several onboard activities along the way, through the mountain passes. This town, despite it growth over the past 20 years, remains quaint yet filled with life. You can relax in the hot springs, go to explore the town, or just wander the market and relax. It is a beautiful town with a river running down the mountain through the town and surrounded in a perfect cloud forest. Your Host will make final arrangements for the next days trek sometime during the day. For true culture experience you will also be able to experience the taste of Lama and/or Alpaca, as well as Cuy (guinea pig) among other regional foods.
DAY 8: Explore the Lost City (Sept 27th)
In the early morning you will get up and head to the buses that take you up to the Lost City, or you can trek it if you like. For most people it's a short but exhilarating ride up to the mountains that surround the ancient Citadel. The Lost City is many times mistakenly referred to, by many novice tourists, as "Machu Picchu," but most of world traveling explorers understand that is the name one of the two surround mountains and the correct name of the Citadel is The Lost City of Machu Picchu. Huayna Picchu is the other mountain which is actually taller than Machu Picchu. The Citadel itself is 7973 feet (2430 meters.) You have the option add-on of trekking up either one of the mountains (permits pending) if you are the adventurous type, but most people come to enjoy the cloud forest and the ruins, as well as enjoying seeing the wandering lamas. One of the famous explorers that belonged to the Nomad Explorers Society among other groups, was Hiram Bingham III who rediscovered the Lost City in 1911. DAY 9: Head back to Cuzco (Sept 28th)
You have an add-on option to do a second trek of the Lost City if you choose, or juts relax in the the quaint town.
You will take the late afternoon train today back to Cuzco to enjoy a last good sleep in mountains of this ancient city.
DAY 10: Flight to Lima (Sep 29th)
After a brief flight you will have a last day in the capital city of Lima, a trip to the some of the local sites including the catacombs of San Francisco Basilica the hip area or Miraflores, and a special dinner to reflect about your adventures.
DAY 10: Flight Home(Sep 30th)
You head home with memories and dreams of Ancient civilization of Incas and wandering mystical cloud cities, while planning your next adventure.
