How is the Nomad explorer Society Gunded
All of the members including the Council Members are volunteers. All Administrative costs, gifts, discounts, and awards are provided through the fees in Nomad Journeys or donations made through the society.
What are JOURNEY fees?
Journey fees are a small fee per person per Journey, which covers trip preparation, personalized itineraries and information for each Journey, reservations for tickets and hotels, and the best prices for activities and hotels, you will actually end up saving money in the long run compared to tourist agencies or on your own. There generally will always be a fee of for members and slightly more for non members, the fees are already included in Journey price.
Who can apply?
Anyone can apply however only serious travelers, that the council feels will uphold the standards of NES are accepted.
DO I have to be a member to go on Nomad Journeys ?
On most Journeys you do not, you can also be invited by a active member, some Journeys, however, are for members only. And while you will still get most of the discounts on the Journey, you will not be able to access certain member pages, and the Journey fee will be higher than for members. However you are required to agree to the terms and conditions set forth by NES.
What are the Travel Groups?
Groups are formed by Chapter Leaders who can form a "Traveler Group," a select amount of people that the Council Member considers a good fit together, live regionally, and generally will travel together well. They can share photos with each other of their adventures abroad, and get personal invites to upcoming Journeys within that group, each group has the 1st opportunity to partake in their particular Journeys designed by their host,
What is a Host?
A Host is a Black Box Member who will be the one who designs and leads the members through their Nomad Journeys. The host plans the details, collects the funds, uses the funds to pay for the items included in the Journey. They take care of check in at hotels, coordinates with travel operators while abroad, communicates with the travels going about activities, discounts, changes, and answers any questions, as well as a variety of other responsibilities. And they also write out the itinerary and information for the Journeys on the website for computer access for the Travelers. Sometimes you will have more than one Host depending on the amount of travelers on a particular Journey.
Is it bad if I belong to only one Order?
Not at all, everyone has their own personal preferences of Journeys. Some members enjoy a variety of activities while others prefer only one type of destination or activity, there is nothing wrong with being yourself. However, only Legacy Order Members will be able to become Black Box Degree or higher. And one of the goals for NES is to leave your comfort zone and enjoy and experience it all.
How do i become part of additional orders?
Through travel of course, as you leave your comfort zone and explore more Journeys with different Order assignments the council will determine if you can belong to more Orders. And if so you will get an invitation from the Council.
CAn I do only part of a Journey?
It depends on the Journey, on the destination, the availability for space, and time allowances as certain dates may a requirement, due to activities already planned. But if possible, yes we will try our best to accommodate you as best we can.
How long does it take to go up levels of Degree?
Each Journey you take will play a part in your advancement. Belonging to different orders helps, the amount of Nomad trips you take part in, your Self- Journeys and personal growth through travel, the Classifications of the Journeys and the amount of Journeys you take. It takes many years to go up one level for some people, but for others they advance very quickly,
What is a Black Box Member?
A Black Box Member is our elite member status, after you achieve this Degree, there is separate Legacy Degrees specified for those members as well, with a different set of ways to advance. Black Box members also get invited to special Black Box Member only Journeys, the have a full vote on the council, a chance to get elected to the council, they pay no Service fees, and other exclusive benefits.
How do i become Part of Black Box?
After you have become a Legacy member, and moved up in degree to World Explorer Level 2, a member of the Black Box and a 2 fellow non-B.B. degrees members MAY nominate you to be tapped to become a member. If nominated, members of Black Box council vet you and your membership, experiences, travels, volunteer work, and leadership roles.
On a Nomad Journey you will be tapped by Black Box members to sit for a Vigary interview. Those members will be your board of review. In preparation for your board of review, prepare for a statement on your ambitions, volunteer work, deep travel knowledge, and explanation on how you would be a benefit to the Society. Also a listing of positions, held in your community, or other organizations, during which you demonstrated leadership skills, include honors and awards received. Afterward if agreed upon by the B.B council, you will be sworn to a vow of secrecy of the Black Box Degrees, and undergo a rite of passage, as you become a Black Box member. Your advancement will have a whole new way elevating your status, through the Legacy Degrees, and you will receive the many benefits that go along with your new Degree, at this time you will have the opportunity to be nominated to be on the Black Box Council, and the Nomad Explorers Society Councils.

CAN YOU TELL ME MORE ABOUT BLACK BOX?
Unfortunately no, as it is a very special status, the reason why will become clear when you reach that level. However, your Chapter leader will always be a Black Box member and sometimes be able to offer you special experiences from their personal chest of knowledge and connections access that fewer people in the world have.
HOw Did Nomad explorers society form?
The society was originally a part of a Masonic Organization many years ago. When the Masons decided to get more politically involved in the world, they decided to break away and form various philanthropic groups, and specific oriented societies, and stay away from the political side of the Masons. Hence the formation of the Nomad Explorers Society, within that Society there are different worldwide groups hosted by Several Chapter Leaders.
ARE THERE MEMBERSHIP DUES?
Unlike many other fraternal organizations that have annual dues, at present we only have a one time Lifetime Membership Fee. With your 1st Nomad Journey after your full membership it will pay for itself easily.
