Arrival
Buy your Visa on arrival, stickers are available from the counter (to the right just before immigration). Visas are $25 USD each. If you use $100 USD you will get $75 in EGP back, (but have exact USD just in case) Then do Immigration, luggage pickup, and customs. Ignore anyone that wants to "speed you through the immigration line." Near the luggage collection, there are many touts who will come up to you and ask you questions saying they are "government" employees and are there to help tourists. This is a scam, and avoid anyone trying to sell you their taxi services. That was the easy part. Now for the fun part. You SHOULD be able to connect to the free wifi at the airport (SSID CAI Wi-Fi) which makes things a lot easier, and be able to communicate with your Host. Or if you choose to buy cell phone service for Egypt through your provider or have an GSM phone and buy a sim card there, it again is easier. Due to security reasons your Host will not be able to enter the terminal, Your Host or driver with a sign with your name on it or "Panorama Pyramids Inn" should be waiting just outside the exit. If not then wait 45 minutes and all else fails take a taxi to the hotel. A "white taxi" which are meter taxis are available at the Terminals. Do insist on using the meter, it should cost no more than 300 EGP. Uber is available if you have phone service. If you are arriving via Terminal 2, walk through the passage inside that connects terminal 2 to terminal 3 and exit there, Depending on your airline you will be in either Terminal 2 (LA and British Airways Flights) or Terminal 3 (Turkish Airlines). |
Hotels
At each hotel your Host will handle the check-in procedures, and may collect your passport for a short time to register your information. You will be responsible for any room service or additional costs that you accumulate during your stay, and can be paid at check-out. Make sure you get a business card from the hotel or the address just in case you get venture out on your own.
Sometimes we may have a "day" hotel due to night train departures. We will either have individual rooms or an apartment. This will be for refreshing and showering. As the apartment has limited showers, to see who showers last we will assign numbers to each other and roll a die, whatever number that lands on goes first and then in order rotating. Good Luck. Activities
All activities are covered that are stated in the Itinerary. Your host generally will pay for all the tickets and entrances. Camera fees are extra, let your guide know if you want the photo pass at the sites and you will then pay for them at that time. Other activities not mentioned are at your own cost, unless stated by the Host. As this is Egypt haggling is part of the experience and it is done everywhere so your Host will do all the work.
Transportation
Transport to and from sites is included, this includes Uber/ Careem, Taxis, boats private vehicles, Trains, etc... And again haggling is part of the culture your Host will make sure the price is fair.If you decide to go out on your own and explore without the group your transportation is not included and at your own cost, and you must do your own haggling. |
