Culinary delights are a huge part of Spanish Tradition, it's not only for sustenance, but also for a sharing experience among friends and family. It varies across regions, but one thing remains consistent, the enjoyment, relaxation, and the effort put into the culinary creations.
The Spanish eat traditionally late, with kitchens open till 11pm or later, they expect you to relax have a few cocktails while munching on tapas and racions, and afterwards have a coffee or digestif.
Food Types
TAPAS
In pre-19th-century Spain tapas were served by posadas, albergues or bodegas, offering meals and rooms for travelers. Since few innkeepers could write and few travelers read, inns offered their guests a sample of the dishes called a "tapa." Tapas have evolved through Spanish history by incorporating new ingredients and influences. From Roman olives to the discovery of potatoes the New World. There are variations in different regions.
RACIONS
Tapas that are served in larger portions to share among each other.
PINTXOS
Pintxos are severed in the Basque region. a little more elaborate based on Basque cuisine and generally served on a skewer.
"MENU"
Some places off a "Menu of the day," this is usually a 2-3 course meal and very popular among travelers for Lunch.
Comidas Tradicionales de Estilo Familiar
As with most Journeys, we indulge in family-style dining with most meals, generally, the Host orders for the table and everyone is welcome to try all the dishes. If there is a dish you want to order. just speak up and we will add that to the family dinner. That way everyone gets to try new and exciting foods without being stuck with something they do not like. We can always order more of a favorite dish if desired.
Special Separate Dinners
If you choose to opt out for a special dinner on your own, let your Host know and you will be given an amount of money of your trip cost to help make that special dinner a little more memorable. And don't forget to ask your Host for suggestions for great restaurants and they may also be able to make reservations, if necessary.
