Information
*Accommodations
Strikes
Greece has 3-4 strikes per year, this means sometimes things like trains and ferries can get delayed by a day or 2. If by some chance we do get delayed all of our island accommodations are not refundable, therefore we will have to find accommodation on the island we are on, and that will not be covered by NES, however your host will find suitable accommodations for that time. This may be a backpacker hotel to reduce your costs, if available.
Weather
The same policy goes for rare ferry cancelations due to weather, which happens 3-5 days a year, for 12-48 hours.
**Transport
Transport is covered in most cases, except not guaranteed if you have to leave the excursion or dinner that isn't walking distance from
***Meals
All evening and some lunch meals are done family style to let everyone try different delicious foods, without committing to something they may or made not like. This gives you a full advantage to try most of the foods of Greece. However, in the rare case you feel ill. you will be offered food to help get you better, this may mean you will miss out on some of the better foods.
breakfast is not offered at most hotels without a hefty cost, so many nights it's best for us to pick up Greek
for the morning, the night before, or that morning depending on the plans for that day, and the variety is pretty large so everyone will be satisfied.
Most days the aim is to have take-away food, or Greek delis for lunch, like Moussaka, calamari, sandwiches, Souvlaki, gyro meats, kababs, savory crepes, etc... Sometimes we will make lunches, pickup pastries. or snacks to-go if we are not sure of locations for lunch that day, while traveling on the road.
Snacks will be at the groups leisure, many time's we will stop for coffee, and maybe a snack, but we will also seek out street stalls, and grocery stores to stock up. While coffee and sodas are covered excessive amounts are at your expense, so just be aware. generally 1 or 2 n/a beverages per meal. Water is always included without limit.
For Dinner we will go to Tavernas generally for our meals, these are similar to Italian trattorias or Irish Pubs, but with Greek food, in many cases they will also be a Meza style tavernas, this means they will serve mezzes, small plates for sharing and you order enough till you are full, this is similar o Spanish Tapas restaurants. These types of restaurants are authentic and sometimes offer live music. Unlike restaurants geared towards Tourists, generally offering bland food, these places are filled with locals and the best food, and best atmosphere for fun.
If you want to go to a special dinner alone, you are more then welcome to do so, however that will be at your own expense.
****Excursions
Most days we have some type of excursion planned starting early morning till lunch and then sometimes after lunch as well, the evenings will generally be for relaxation, dinners, and drinks.
Nomad Days
On a few days Nomad Explorers Society has reserved those times for special excursions that are complimentary to you and special experiences you will be able to participate in. These will be revealed on the night before or the day of the experience. These are all depending on local cost, weather, and availability.
Optional Activities
Specially in Paros where you will have a few free days to relax, you may be offered to do optional activities, these are not included in your Journey, and are optional to purchase. These are not compulsory, but you may desire to do them, as it peaks your interest. Otherwise, your hosts will have other plans that you can join instead, or you could just relax for the day.
*****Extras
Restaurant tips are included with all you meals, however if there is an tour or transport that tips are optional, you may choose to tip the guides, or drivers, just ask you Host what is an appropriate amount. It is best to ask you host to avoid over tipping, as it can be destructive to their culture, or insulting sometimes.
