<img src="https://www.nomadsociety.net/uploads/2/2/4/8/2248082/cairo-pyramids1_orig.jpg" width="200" height="200">
Shaddow is a world adventurer and a scholar, he has traveled all over the world, and has many amazing stories of his adventures of over 20 years of travels, along with his beautiful wife Claire, they have conquered most bucket lists.
Accompanying him is Rob, a experienced traveler in his own right, Rob climbed Kilimanjaro when he was younger and in the past few years has made it a goal to see much more the world has to offer, and spends a portion of the year traveling. With him is his girlfriend Melissa who is just getting the travel bug herself with her recent adventures with Rob. They have just come back from Guatemala, and seen the world famous Tikal Mayan ruins.
The other companion is Julianne, who has traveled to Europe, and a few years ago to China on a Nomad Journey. She does some traveling on her own and with her job, and recently got back from Sweden. Julianne is just coming into light as an experienced traveler herself. She is very outgoing but works a lot and with her limited downtime she relaxes watching classic movies from the 40s.
It's you turn to depart the plane, and as you get up the very quiet Arabic gentleman, will small eyes and a beak like nose, across the aisle from you rises, gives you a very deep look, grabs you hand, places an object in it, and says "lilhimaya" in a deep Arabic accent. He quickly hurries off the plane.

In your hand is a two inch by 2 inch green carved piece of rock in the form of a beetle, what the Egyptians called a scarab, and on the bottom is carved an eye, it is surprising lightweight.
"Well that was weird" you exclaim. Placing the scarab in you top left pocket you head off the plane, you hardly notice it in your pocket. You stop at the booth to buy your visa upon arrival, at the booth before immigration. You reach down to you pants pocket for your passport and it's not there. "Oh crap where did I put it, did the little beady eyed man steal it from me? Did I forget it on the plane? Did I drop it?"... You panic, but then you suddenly remember it's in you right top shirt pocket. With relief you hand it to get stamped and move on to immigration.
"Purpose of trip and hotel name?" says the balding Egyptian officer in front of you, his badge reads IOM and his last name, “Nasar,”
You pause for a moment a little nervous and stutter and tell him “Tourism and Whore House Hotel"
He gives you a hard stern look, and says "are you sure?"
You realize your mistake and say "Yes, Tourism and Horus House Hotel"
He gives a big smile and laughs and says “Enjoy your time, welcome to my country". You then go to pick up your bags at the carousal.
As you get your bag an Egyptian man, dressed in a wrinkled suit jacket asks "Which hotel are staying at?"
This time you clearly say "Horus House Hotel" and
He says "I here to pick you up and take you there"
<img src="https://www.nomadsociety.net/uploads/2/2/4/8/2248082/published/airport.jpg?1553994268" width="200" height="200">
Shaddow said if he is not there, someone with a sign with you name on it will pick you up, but he also said because of security reasons you will meet them after you exit the terminal. You look around, there is a security officer at the carousal...
Do you go with the [[Stranger]]?
Do You say "I am good" and head towards the [[Exit]]
Do you go to the [[Security]] officer and tell them your situation?
You ignore the stranger and he quickly scampers off, you look around as you exit and in front of you is Shaddow dressed in traditional expedition clothes, wearing his normal bracelets and jewelry, he has pickup up on some of his many adventures across the world, and a fedora, Claire dressed similar without the hat, and an Giant Egyptian man, about 6'6" who has a friendly smile on his face.
Shaddow announces "Welcome to the real world!", gives you a big hug followed by one from then Claire. The Egyptian introduces himself as Muhammad, the owner of the hotel, and shakes your hand. As you head to the car, you tell them about your recent your adventures, in the past hour.
Muhammad says, “sometimes the guards are bribed by taxi drivers to let them get fares, then they lie about being sent for you, take you for a long ride, and then try to convince you that the hotel you booked is closed for repairs, and they want to take you to a "better one". It is usually harmless, but costs you lots of money and messes up your plans right away. As for the Scarab that is really odd to me as well, however "lilhimaya" means "for protection" but those scarabs can be bought for a really cheap price by the dozen in the Souq.
After about 45 minutes you arrive at the Hotel, you are shown to your room and drop you bags and hit the bed for tomorrow's adventures.
<img src="https://www.nomadsociety.net/uploads/2/2/4/8/2248082/horus-guest-house-pyramids.jpg" width="200" height="200">
That night you have a strange vivid dream of a beautiful woman with long dark flowing hair, wearing a beautiful red gown and crown with bull horns and a disk between them. She also appears to have wings of bird, and is holding a feather, she looks familiar but you can't place it. She is whispering something to you, as you try to make out what she is saying you are awoken by a screeching sound.
[[Day 1]]
As you head with the stranger out the door, he asks to take your bags, something is a little odd about this guy, so you hang onto them and say "no thank you"
As you pass customs and head out the exit, you hear you name being called.
The tall stranger says "come this way" we must get you to the hotel"
But as you turn around you see some familiar faces...
[[Exit]]You realize that it's you phone alarm gong off. You get up, take a shower, and head to the rooftop for some breakfast and to meet up with the rest of your companions
"Merhaba and Good Morning!" says Shaddow in a way too early cheerful voice. "Sit and have some Breakfast" we have some adventures to head out to today.
Claire introduces you to Rob and Melissa. Rob is a taller man, in his 40s wearing a plaid button down shirt, with a nice smile, and Melissa is a blonde in her mid-30s wearing a long sleeve shirt and slacks. Both Rob and Melissa shake your hand. Julianne rises and introduces herself, another blonde a little bit on the short side, and you can you tell she has spunk.
Then it suddenly hits you, a breathtaking view of the Giza Pyramids, and all around busy but oddly peaceful streets crowed with camels, horses and carriages. A smell of camel dung and warm sand hit your nostrils like a soft earthy perfume. The Giza pyramids are majestically looming over the landscape like powerful sentinels.
<img src="https://www.nomadsociety.net/uploads/2/2/4/8/2248082/130985258.jpg" width="200" height="200">
Muhammad arrives with a tray of food, a falafel, yogurt, some fruit, and bread along with some juice. Everyone is enjoying their breakfast when Shaddow asks "How did you sleep?" something slightly devious in the way he asks.
You tell him about the woman and the feather. Shaddow responds "sounds like Isis was visiting you, by the way you describe her" The way he says it, is as nonchalant, as if the sky is blue and the grass is green.
After breakfast, you all thank Muhammad, and head downstairs to get into your private van that you have rented for the day. You drivers name is Ahmed a nice fellow, but a bit on the quite side.
Shaddow turns to you and asks "Where to first Garbage City or The City of the Dead?", "Everyone else has voted, two for Garbage City and two for The City of the Dead, I am staying neutral, so it's up to you.”
"Let's go to [[Garbage City]]
"Let'sgo to The [[City of the Dead]]
As you approach the security guard looks at you and you tell him about the stranger, the security guard gives you a dismissive look and says to you "he says he is here to pick you up? Then why ask me? If he knows your hotel name then he must be here for you"
Do you just head towards the [[Exit]]?
Do you go with the [[Stranger]]?Even before arriving in this city the sweet, stifling, nose-crinkling scent that hits you first. Mingled with engine fumes and the whiff of hot sand as you burn up the Cairo motorway, it's the stink of damp cardboard and decaying fruit. It's the smell of Garbage City.
Your van jolts through the uneven streets, following a truck wobbling under its load of compacted cardboard boxes. Images of the Virgin Mary, Jesus and the saints, painted two meters high on shop fronts and balconies, look on. Scraps of plastic bags, foil chocolate-bar wrappers and crumbled newspapers are buffeted by the wind, whipped up and mingled with city dust.
Behind the high walls on the outskirts of Cairo is a mostly Coptic Christian community, known as the Zabaleen - a derogatory term for garbage men. Settling in an abandoned quarry, they became the informal waste disposal experts of the city in the 70s, collecting rubbish from the capital's streets for free and bringing it back to their homes to recycle it. Sorting is done by hand - the plastics are separated from the cardboard, the clothes from the organic waste, before they're sold on to the next layer of the community's refuse economy. Shouts bounce off the walls from a children's football game up the street. Small eyes smile at us from behind vast cubes of compacted aluminum, stacked up like hay bales and glistening in the sunshine.
You drive through to the Monastery of Saint Simon just up the hill. You all get out if the van except Ahmed who is happy to stay in the car, and head into this giant cave church. The church itself is a massive outdoor seating using a per-existing cave and the slope that led into it, the current monastery seats 20,000 people around a central pulpit.
As you are wandering around this impressive church you notice what looks like the little beady eyed man from the airplane that gave you the scarab, and he is looking right at you, you decide to approach him, but as you do Claire gets your attention and says "stop right there this will make a great picture of you." You pose and turn around the little man is gone.
After an hour or so of enjoying this and other churches in the area, you and the rest head back to the van to visit the City of the Dead.

After an hour or so you and the rest head back to the van to go have lunch and relax for the day
[[Day 2]]You arrive to this cemetery in southeastern part of Cairo. It is a 4 miles long and a dense grid of tomb and mausoleum structures, where some people live and work among the dead. Some reside here to be near ancestors, of recent to ancient lineage. Some live here after being forced from central Cairo due to urban renewal demolitions and urbanization pressures.
You and your group get out of the van and start to wander the cemetery, Shaddow says to stick close as crime can be bad here and it's best to be on your guard. Drug deals are notorious for happening inside some of the mausoleums.
The history of this place is amazing and it dates back to 642 AD to the Muslim conquest of Egypt. You are amazed by all the statues and graves, you stop to look at one of the graves and feel a sense of dizziness. You think it might be all the heat and take a swig of your water, you close your eyes for a second to get rid of a headache that has come on, and when you open them, the sky is gettting dark as if dusk has fallen...
<img src="https://www.nomadsociety.net/uploads/2/2/4/8/2248082/233583.jpg" width="200" height="200">
You realize your friends are nowhere to be seen and you are lost. You hear a noise to the left and it's a cat wearing a gold necklace. It moves and starts walking on the left path, it stops and seems to be waiting for you.
And to the right you is a small black puppy with a long face wagging it's tail it again looks at you, and heads onto the right path, again waiting for you.
What do you do?

Your wander through the left path following the cat, as you do you realize the sky wasn't dark after all, it just seem a cloud was passing overhead and your imagination got away with you. The cat leads you forward and you come across your friends.
"Hey guys sorry about that I got turned around for awhile", you say.
Julianne looks at you puzzled, "Huh? We haven't moved and you were right there a second ago, you are weird” She gives you a smile.
You look over and you see it's the same mausoleum you saw the cat and black puppy by 45 minutes ago.
You mention the strange loss of time to Claire and she says ”It looks like Bastet was watching over you”
Shaddow says "You guys ready? It's time to head to Garbage City"
[[Garbage City -]]You follow the black puppy down the lonely path as it winds and turns. Suddenly the puppy stops growls, and lays down. It starts to transform in a 7' foot being with a head like an aardvark with a forked tail.
He opens his mouth to speak and a loud booming deep voice comes out. "You are foolish little one. Your spirit may have led to to the Land of your Soul, but your bad choices today have led you to your doom." "Because you made such a foolish choice you shall wander the realm of the dead, Duat, for all of eternity. The Underworld shall be your punishment for your foolishness."
Suddenly you feel a warmth in your top pocket and you realize it's the scarab, you remove it from your pocket and it starts to glow green, you hold onto it tight and you start to drift. You open your eyes and you are standing next to your friends with no memory of the recent events.

Shaddow says "Time to go to Lunch and get some good camel meat"
After lunch you relax for the day and tonight you will go on the Nile and enjoy a dinner show.
[[Day 2]]That night you dream again, this time there is no woman in red, but instead you see handsome man with green skin, with a beard, wearing a feathered white crown. He looks at you and nods, he again like the woman seems familiar but you can't place where. He whispers to you "the way of the heart is the way to the light" You awaken feeling confused, but figure this has all to do with the odd foods and spices you have been eating.
Today you wake up early to join the group to go to the Giza Pyramids the only still standing Ancient Wonder of the World. Built about 4500 years ago, archaeologists are still debating over the construction and the actual history of these behemoths.
You and your group walk to the Giza Pyramids form your hotel, a short but hectic route because you are constantly mobbed by touts trying to sell you their services. Everything from camel and horse rides, to guides, or "VIP" tours. Everyone and their brother is an egyptologist..or so they say.
[[The Great Pyramid]]
As you crouch through the small tunnel what seem like an hour you finally see some light coming through an exit. It's moonlight and when you exit there are thousands of people all dressed in Ancient Egyptian outfits moving huge blocks on sleds towards a new pyramid being erected.
A man in a leather tunic and loin cloth and a nice friendly smile, stands next to you and says to you "I am Ahmes, the supervisor, and you must be the new recruit from Thebes. Well, there is plenty of work to do.” You suddenly realize you are also wearing the same outfit as the workers. He leads you to the barges that hold the giant blocks that make up the pyramids here he instructs you on what to do. You have always wondered how the pyramids were built where here is your chance to find out.
<img src="https://www.nomadsociety.net/uploads/2/2/4/8/2248082/pyramids.jpg" width="400" height="200">
Many years of hard labor you put into building the Pyramid of Menkaure, and as you are a hard worker and have earned the respect of the men, they make you a supervisor. You settle down marry a good wife, named Henite, the sister of Ahmes, who you have become good friends with. You are fortunate to have 6 children. You are considered better off than most people and love giving to others.
One day while at the final placements of the blocks of the pyramid you notice a worker drop a scarab carving, in the sand. You pick it up and try to hand it back to the worker, he is a small man with beady piercing eyes and a sharp nose, he looks familiar to you, as you hand it towards him he says to you. "You keep it for protection"
That night at your house you are having dinner with your wife, children, Ahmes and his family celebrating the Feast of the birth of Horus. You are drinking beer and celebrating life, when you get a slight pain in your head, you figure too much beer and sun today, and decide to lie down.
You notice a slight glow from the window ledge next to your bed, it is where you put the Scarab that you the worker dropped. You place it in you hand and a warm feeling comes over you, a peaceful relaxing feeling you let your self drift away...
[[Next III]]
You head left down the passage you crouch and crawl, but eventually it starts to get lighter out and you find the exit of the Pyramid. All this thin air and fear of being lost has you heart pounding. You grab the left side of your chest and suddenly you remember what the Green skinned God said last night in your dream. The way of the heart is the way to the light" And as your heart is on your left side of your body and the left side was the way out...nah must be coincidence.
You find yourself standing at the exit of the pyramid, you walk towards your friends and explore the rest of the pyramids without incident. That night you and your friends sit on your rooftop terrace to watch the light show on the pyramids, and head to bed to rest up for the next Day.
[[Day 3]] Today you and your group will head down to Saqqara, Dashur, and the ancient capital city of Memphis. You once again hop in a private van and Ahmed drives you 45 km south the the ancient ruins of Saqqara.
Saqqara is a vast, ancient burial ground in Egypt , serving as the necropolis for Memphis. Saqqara features numerous pyramids, including the world-famous Step pyramid of Djoser, Another 16 Egyptian kings built pyramids at Saqqara, which are now in various states of preservation or dilapidation.
After you visit Saqqara and marvel at these much older and much more rustic Pyramids, you and your group head to Dashur where you come across the marvelous wonder that is the Red Pyramid. Once completed, the pyramid was considered to be a success, as it was a fully constructed, smooth sided, and a free standing pyramid rising to a height of 104 meters, with an angle of 43 degrees. The Red Pyramid’s name reigns from the material that was used to construct the pyramid, red limestone. And this pyramid is believed to be the resting place of King Sneferu.
After a brief up walk to the entrance Red pyramid you and your group come across an old man siting asking for baksheesh, Shaddow gives him a few Egyptian pounds to avoid the hassle, and you all enter into the pyramid, as you descend, you realize that the old man was the same old man from the plane, but its too late to go back now to talk to him. As you descend down into the musty dark claustrophobic passage, crouching for 280 meters, the air grows thin and stale, filled with a whiff of ammonia. It is a real workout even for the fit. Once you enter the first chamber you realize the exhilarating thrill of feeling like Indiana Jones. You explore the passages and have the pyramid all to yourselves, in one of the chambers you see a coin in the corner of a small room, on one side is a Hippopotamus. You go to retrieve the coin and when you bend over you bump your head hard on the low ceiling and black out.
When you awaken you are in the same chamber with a woman with Head of a hippopotamus, the arms and legs of a lion, the back and tail of a crocodile, and the breasts and stomach of a pregnant woman.
"Hello Kevin" she says.
You just stare at this talking hippopotamus in disbelief. You think you must have hit your head harder than you thought.
"I am Tawaret the Goddess of Hippopotamus, also called the Great One"
"Nice to meet you" you manage to stutter out. How else do you answer a talking Hippo Goddess?
"It seems that you have hit your head and it caused a brain bleed that caused you to die"
You stare in disbelief. "I must be having a nightmare" but something tells you she is telling the truth. You look around you and see your body lying there surrounded by a pool of blood, and yiu are standing beside it.
"Oh fuck" now you are freaked out.
Tawaret nods and looks at you and says "I am here to offer you a choice"
"I will resurrect you into rebirth but to an ancient time... The first choice is you can become the First King of Egypt and the second choice is you can become an commoner. You will have no knowledge of this previous life. Choose wisely"
You pause for a second and realize tat you have one of 2 choices
You choose to become the:
[[First King of Egypt]]
[[Commoner]]
You awake to the sweet kisses of you wives. You are the King Menes, you have gone by several names like Narmer and Aha. You have 2 beautiful wives Neithotepe, who was the mother of your only son and heir, Djer, and Queen Berenib the First Royal Wife just as beautiful as the moon.
You look around and you are surrounded by wealth in the room, golden candle sticks, oils, and perfumes, and cloths of the finest material. You are a proud man, the first king of unified Egypt, who joined Upper and Lower Egypt in a single centralized monarchy. You diverted the course of the Nile in Lower Egypt and founding Memphis—the capital of ancient Egypt, on the reclaimed land. This location was chosen because it would make it easier to protect the city from invading armies, and also because it would allow the you to control the river delta and trade routes to Sinai and Canaan. You also founded the city of Crocodopolis where you built the first temple to Ptah. During your reign you expanded the kingdom and its influence to the first cataract on the Nile, sent ambassadors to Canaan and Byblos in Phoenicia where he developed commercial trade links, and also attacked the Nubians to the south.
You dress for the day, putting on your expensive cloths, and placing upon your head a red and white crown depicting the red and white crowns of Lower and Upper Egypt, a combination symbolic of unification, and triumphant over your enemies.
You days are filled with diplomacy and pleas from the people for their needs. In the afternoon you head out for a swim in the Nile. A refreshing swim always does good to relive your stress from the hecticness of daily diplomacy.
As you are swimming you notice a lump in the water ahead of you, it looks like a rock, but then it moves, you suddenly realize that it is a Hippopotamus and it's headed your way. You reach down and feel your dagger by your side, must think quick about what to do.
[[Fend]] the Hippo off
[[Swim]] as quickly to show as you canGood Morning darling" says your beautiful sister and wife Renpet-neferet. She is near the time of giving birth and glowing. "The Pharaoh Khasekhem summons you, the Pharaoh's Great Royal Wife, is having a very difficult time giving birth to Prince Djoser"
Already your name, Imhotep, is beloved as a mediator of everyday problems who could "provide remedies for all diseases," and "give sons to the childless. You are the author of an Egyptian medical text, which contains almost 100 anatomical terms and describes 48 injuries and their treatment, remembered for your medical treatises which regarded disease and injury.
As vizier to the Pharaoh, as well as a head architect you job duties require you to oblige the royal family. You dress quickly and rush off to the palace to help in the birth of Queen Nimaathap's child. You help with the deliver and recovery of the Queen. Word is sent to you that during this time your own wife has given birth to your son, and tragically died in childbirth. Losing not only your wife but your sister, breaks your heart, but you are aware of the times and chances for a mother dying in labor. The Queen says "we will place your son under the care of my nurse, while you attend to your wife's body.
You attend to the ritual of placing your wife's body through the 40 days of mummification and burial preparation. You bury your beloved wife in the desert near Saqqara, and swear someday to return and raise a great building over her grave. You continue your life as a well respected adviser and are given the great task of building the 1st Pyramid for Pharaoh Djoser. Of course The place you choose is where you buried your wife.
You go on to make great advancement in the medical field and architecture. Years after your death you will be deified (only one of 2 commoners to ever have this honor) and legends and stories will be given great honor to your name. 4600 years later you will immortalized in the movies as "The Mummy".
As you lie on your death bed you feel life slipping away, you had a good life and will cherish these last few moments. You notice a slight glow from the window ledge next to your bed, it is a scarab carving. You place it in you hand and a warm feeling comes over you, a peaceful relaxing feeling you let your self drift away...
[[Next II]]
You awake after hitting your head, "Wow, that's going to leave a mark" you say feeling the big lump on your head. You look around and don't see the coin anywhere. "oh well" you shrug your shoulders and leave, but as you do you get this weird slight dream of being someone else.
You ignore this feeling and join the others. After a bit more exploration you move leave this ancient pyramid.
Its time to go back to your hotel clean up and head to the Nile to go on a Felucca cruise, an traditional sailing boat of Egypt.
[[Day 4]]This night the green skinned God appears again, this time he is wearing a long golden robe and carrying carrying the crook and flail. He looks at you and says “If you respect the alms you will be safe, if not you will be lost” He smiles a devilish little smile and disappears, as your alarm goes off.
Today you change hotels to a day hotel, for in the evening you will head by train down south to Upper Egypt. The South is upper Egypt is based on the way the Nile flows, coming from a land where North is “up” on the map it can be a bit confusing.
After saying your heartfelt goodbyes to Muhammad and his family, you will head to a smaller hostel where you will be able to shower and change before the train that evening. After arriving and dropping off your luggage at the hostel you will head to the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities.
When your group arrives at the Museum, Shaddow pays the entrance for everyone, and you head in. The place, built in 1901, is huge and is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities, it doesn't look like it's changed much in the past century. It has 120,000 items, with a representative amount on display, the remainder in storerooms. You decide to wander on your own, and meet up in 2 hours. This place is amazing and filled with so much to look at including the Royal Mummy Room, containing 27 royal mummies from pharaonic times.
After awhile you notice that 2 men have been following you, you decide to go to the room to the left, when they aren't looking. They pass by and you backtrack towards the Mummy room. But as you approach the room you see that the men are behind you again.
You go to a security guard and tell them what is happening, he says "what men?" You turn around and they are gone. So you press on, after awhile the men are behind you again. What do you do?
[[Confront]]the men
[[Run]] towards the exitYou get ready and as the Hippopotamus approaches, you grab you dagger and just as it is about to attack you plunge the dagger into the hippos right eye, this infuriates it even further to takes a big bite and crushes you left shoulder, still your adrenaline is high and you take another swing with your dagger to stab it in the left eye, you miss, but as just as it turns to bite down you plunge upwards through the bottom of the left eye. The hippo now is blind and flails about giving you a chance to swim to safety.
Wow, that was close, but you did not get away unscathed, your shoulder is crushed and you are bleeding badly, you manage to swim one armed back to shore. As you reach land you lie back, exhausted and in great pain, and bleeding, but alive.
You hear a barking sound coming from the land above the shore and see a pack of wild dogs racing towards you. The smell of blood has made them crazy for your flesh, as you turn to rise, you feel a crushing clamp on you leg, pain shooting upwards your whole body. You look down just in time to see 3 crocodiles ready to feast on you, and one already has a good chunk of your leg. You don't know which will kill you first the wild dogs or the crocodiles, but at this moment you don't really care... [[Next I]]As you turn to swim fast, trying to out run the Hippopotamus, you see the shore, to to your dismay several crocodiles are lined up and a pack wild dogs are a little up the hill from them, so you swim along the shore to find a clearing, you spot one, and swim hard for the shore, but as you get close to land, the hippo is upon you and attacks, it takes a chunk out of your right arm and then a bite to your left leg. You know you are done for...
As you wait for the final blow from those enormous creature you black out from the pain and start sinking into the Nile...
[[Next I]]The next moment you wake up to the peaceful sounds of the water lapping the shoreline. In front of you is a man with a crocodile for a head, wearing a loin cloth and holding an large ankh.
"I see Taweret has been having some fun with you, Kevin". The name sounds familiar but you aren't sure where you have heard it before. "I am Sobek the Crocodile God, as you already know. This is not your time nor place for you to die, you will return to the land and time from where you came, and you will remember nothing of this. May Ra shine his light on you" You feel yourself drifting away...
[[Next II]]
You see the light coming from the entrance of the Great Pyramid. Things are a little fuzy it seems like a lifetime since you saw the two passages. You only remember crouching to find the exit, you look back and only see one passage, you just must be a little headed from the thin air. You feel like you are missing something, but can't place it. You walk towards your friends and explore the rest of the pyramids without incident, strangely the Pyramid of Menkaure ends up being your favorite, you just don't know why.
That night you and your friends sit on your rooftop terrace to watch the light show on the pyramids, and head to bed to rest up for the next Day.
[[Day 3]]
You decide to approach the men and ask why they are following you. As you approach the men you see they have a camera aiming at you they seem nervous.
"Why are you guys following me?" You ask demandingly. The men shift their feet a little bit and look at the ground.
"Um...no harm sir, we just wanted to know if you are that famous actor from that Avengers film? And if we could get a picture with you?"
You laugh a bit at your paranoia, and tell them that you are sorry that you aren't, but if they still want a picture you would be happy to take it with them.
They aren't disappointed and happily take a few pictures with you. They want to exchange whatsapp numbers with you and keep in contact with their new friend. You gladly do and sign it, "Your American friend AKA Kevin the Avengers Recruit."
You are glad you didn't run out, you could have knocked over antique or something, and you have made good friends.
You head outside and see your other friends waiting for you. You tell Shaddow about your adventure and he laughs and says "Okay Captain America, let's head to the Souq."
[[Souq]]As you run towards the exit, the men stop their pursuit, but just then you slide and knock into a display and almost knock over a statue of Bastet, the Cat goddess. Luckily you catch it and place it back on the mantel. Then the alarms start going off....
Guards are running at you form ever direction and you just stand there, knowing running will make it worse. The guards all start yelling at you in Arabic, and you haven't a clue what to say.
Finally a man approaches the guards and says to the guards "he accidentally did not look where he was going and tripped", you realize this is the beady eyed man from the plane. The guards calm down and tell you in broken English that "You leave now, no come back today" You turn around to thank the man and ask him about the scarab, but he has vanished, again.
You are glad you aren't going to see the inside of an Egyptian jail, you quickly oblige the guards and leave the building.
Outside you find that your friends are already waiting for you. You tell Shaddow what happened and he laughs and says "Well I hear the falafels in Egyptian prisons are amazing"
Claire smiles and says well "Cats always do land on their feet" referring the the statue of Bastet. You have a feeling your new nickname will be "Jailbait", and you may not live this down for a while.
"Let's head to the Souq, where the only thing you can knock over there is a stand of cheap souvenirs"
[[Souq]]The Cairo Souq, Khan el-Khalili, is the bazaar district is one of Cairo's main attractions for tourists and Egyptians alike. The site of Khan el-Khalili was originally the site of a mausoleum known as turbat az-za'faraan (Saffron Tomb). In the early 16th century, Sultan al-Ghuri, Egypt's last powerful Mamluk sultan modified the layout of the whole district through a major campaign of demolition and new construction. He demolished the original khan built by al-Khalili and rebuilt it in 1511 as a commercial complex with monumental gates and streets in a regular grid plan. It became a central bazaar where the most precious goods were sold, which often had roofed streets and was protected by locked gates at night. This now includes an ornate gate and the upper stories whose facade is lined with iron-grilled windows where merchants' rooms were located. Two other monumental gates, the Bab al-Badistan and the Bab al-Ghuri, also date from this time and are still standing today.
From al-Ghuri's reign onward, the district became associated with Turkish merchants, and during the Ottoman period the Turkish community of Cairo was centered here. today is mainly occupied by locals rather than foreign merchants and shopholders, but is significantly geared towards tourists. Shops typically sell souvenirs, antiques and jewelry, but many traditional workshops continue to operate in the surrounding area and the adjoining goldsmiths' souq, for example, is still important for locals.
In addition to shops, there are several coffeehouses, restaurants, and street food vendors distributed throughout the market. The coffee shops are generally small and quite traditional, serving Arabic coffee and usually offering shisha. One of the oldest and most famous coffeehouses is Fishawi's, established in 1773.
You arrive at the Souq and wander through the streets with your friends, occasionally stopping for some street food, do some shopping, and deep haggling.
You notice something that would be good to buy your brother, and decide that you want to try your hand at haggling, after a bit of talking to the owner, he tells you to come in and have tea. You tell your friends and they say they will be just down at the cafe you passed on the way in.
After some polite conversation and the owner trying to sell you 50 of the item you were looking at, and pretty much everything in the shop you, you settle on a few things and get what you thinks is a decent price. You head to go find the cafe.
[[Finding the Cafe]]
After leaving the store you start to walk to the cafe, or the way you think the cafe was. But, soon you feel like you have gone too far, and turn around and walk the other way, still no luck. hmm...well this sucks.
You have no service on your phone, but you have the hostel's business card with you and figure you'll just take a taxi to the hostel and call your friends when you get service.
As you start to look for the exit to the Souq, you see Exit signs one that point to the left and one that points to the right. You look down both passages, the right passage you see a few beggars and it looks a little dingy, the left passage looks a little narrower but cleaner. You need to decide of which way to go
[[Right Passage]]
[[Left Passage]]As you wander past the beggars you throw them a few coins each, not a lot, but just a little change you had from your recent purchases. Shaddow warned you too much charity, makes them dependent on tourists and begging rather than looking for work.
You wander down this dreary passage for 20 minutes, in what seems to be circles, and come across the main walkway where the cafe was you were looking for in the first place.
Your friends are sitting around a table drinking some tea, and sharing a shisha, an Egyptian Hookah, with fruit flavored tobacco. You sit and join them and tell them that you got lost.
"Part of the experience, my friend" says Shaddow, and he goes amuse everyone with his stories of getting lost in Djema el-Fna, the market of Marrakesh, 20 years ago, and having to pay a 5-year-old local boy to get him and Claire to the exit.
[[Part II]]As you wander down the narrower passage you notice that the shops around here are closed, and the lighting seems to be dimmer. You keep pressing forward going towards the exit and suddenly around one of the bends, 3 men turn around the corner.
They are all in what seems to be the 20s or 30s are filthy, clothes tattered, and smell extraordinarily bad One man has a very shaggy beard, another one has a cap and a more trimmed beard, and another with a scar down his right cheek. The shaggy bearded speaks up "What we have here? Some lost tourist trying to leave?"
You look at the men and say "excuse me" and try to get past them. But they stand their ground. "No problem, we show the you way out, you just give us Baksheesh" The look serious and not friendly by any means.
Whats do you do?
[[Ignore them]] turn back the way you came
Give them [[20]] Egytian Pound (About $1)
Give them [[100]] Egptian Pound (About $5)This is the end of Part One more adventures coming yor way in Part IIYou turn and walk away from them fast, they laugh and tell you "We were just messing with you my friend, the exit is the way you are going, the old exit is closed this way now. Stay safe, sorry." They wander off laughing. You didn't think it was so funny.
You turn around and head down the other way.
[[Right Passage]]You hand the 20 Egyptian Pound. They look at it in surprise. At first you think “Did I insult them and give them too little are they going to be mad and try to rob me?” But, they seemed to be pleased.
The one with the beard says, "Okay my friend, you are going the wrong way, this exit is closed, you must head the other way"
The man with the scar says "20 Egyptian Pound? Well, looks like this American is worse off than us", he gives a evil smile and laugh. You wonder what would have happen if you gave him more?
You turn around and head down the other way.
[[Right Passage]]
You hand them 100 Egyptian Pounds. The man with the scar speaks up. “So you have good money to spend? Well that won't do we deserve more. His friend in the cap looks a little worried "Calm down, Omar, we were just messing with him."
Omar says "I don't care what you were doing, Mostafa, these Americans come here and think they better than us Muslims, they flash their money around, and think they better. Well I got something to flash around." He pulls out a knife and starts slashing the air.
Mostafa says "Leave the kid alone, he doesn't want any trouble"
The Shaggy bearded guy says to Omar, “You aren't going to do anything put that knife away.”
Omar says "I'll show you nothing, he may not have wanted trouble, but he's got trouble" And with that he grabs you and thrusts the knife at you meaning to scare you, but he trips and it goes forward righht into your chest...
As it hits your chest it hits something hard, and breaks the tip of the knife. He drops the knife in surprise, and runs away. His friends just stare in wonder.
Mostafa says we are so sorry about our friend, please forgive us, don't hurt us, we will go turn him into the police, now.
You reach into your pocket and grab out the scarab, that the knife must have hit. You decide it's best to go the other way and not mention this incident.
You turn around and head down the other way.
[[Right Passage]]
Double-click this passage to edit it.Upon entering you the Giza complex the Pyramids seem mind boggling and the Sphinx sitting majestic is an amazing site. The mere size and construction seems otherworldly. Shaddow leads you past the touts selling there services and you approach the Cheops pyramid. You enter through the small entrance, the passage is quite small and dusty, and you must crouch at times, the air is thin, but bearable.
<img src="https://2248082-131179606486281751.preview.editmysite.com/uploads/2/2/4/8/2248082/egypt0608-x2_orig.jpg" width="200" height="200">.
After crouching and crawling for a bit, you enter the King's Chamber, an empty area but for a Sarcophagus to one side of the room, as you approach it you hear a humming sound coming from the room. You turn to Shaddow and ask what that sound is and he says "what sound?"
You explore the room look at the vents and the ceiling, marveling at the construction, built so many years ago. When you are done exploring you turn around and everyone seems to have left the chamber, so you venture out yourself.
As you crouch through the passageway back you find it odd that you don't see anyone coming your way, as you press forward you come across a split in the passage, you don't remember seeing it on your way in, but it must have been there. You look for a sign pointing the way out but there is none.
There is a passage that goes left and one that goes right which do you choose?
